The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Symposium and Informal Senior Officials' Meeting (ISOM) opened today in Shenzhen, marking the first official event under China’s chairmanship of APEC for 2026.

Shenzhen, a young international metropolis best known for its openness, inclusiveness and bold innovations, has been chosen as the host city for the 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. The "Make it Shenzhen" initiative for the APEC China Year officially kicks off today, inviting friends from home and abroad to visit the city, experience its services, and share their unique perspectives.

At the 29th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2022, member economies issued a leaders' declaration and endorsed the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy framework. These documents underscore the members' commitment to sustainable development.

At the recently concluded 2025 Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Forum and Shenzhen National Low-Carbon City Forum, Shenzhen Daily interviewed a senior United Nations official on Shenzhen’s exemplary role in low-carbon urban development and how regional organizations, such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), could further accelerate climate goals.

China joined APEC in 1991.

APEC is the premier economic cooperation forum in the Asia-Pacific region.

The APEC Photo Contest began in 2011 to raise awareness on APEC's mission, achievements, and impact on people's lives in the region. The competition offers a platform for professionals and amateur photography enthusiasts to showcase their work highlighting the dynamic and diverse Asia-Pacific region.
