On Oct. 24, around 150 elite runners from 15 countries and regions gathered at Shenzhen Ping An Finance Center for the 2026 Asia Pacific Towerrunning Elite Race. The skyscraper is the tallest building in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the world’s tallest office building.

The moving strains of “You Raise Me Up” filled a room at Shenzhen Daily’s office in Futian District on Oct. 18, as Chinese and international friends gathered to remember Francis Kwesi Hagan, a Ghanaian teacher and dedicated volunteer who devoted years to helping others in Shenzhen. Hagan died of an illness in Ghana on Oct. 1, leaving behind a legacy of kindness that continues to inspire the city’s volunteer community.

Serbian‑born Teodora Pesic, who has lived in Shenzhen for 11 years, has recently taken office as Futian District’s first international community worker. Based in Shixia Community, she pays home visits to residents, collects public feedback, organises English training sessions and builds connections between Chinese and international neighbours. Futian is shifting from one‑way service delivery to a model that invites international residents to participate in community governance, trialling innovative approaches to foster inclusive communities that could be replicated in other regions.

On Oct. 12, the Shenzhen International Center for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SICIAM) and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) sealed partnership at the Shenzhen Park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone.

From September 25 to 27, the acclaimed French contemporary street theater company Remue Ménage made its Chinese mainland debut with its signature production Le Bal, presenting a Mid-Autumn Festival special edition at K11 ECOAST, Shenzhen. Inspired by a French ballroom dance, the performance featured luminous gentlemen, flower fairies, a giant glowing white horse and other characters parading along the waterfront. Blending dance and lighting, it created a roving artistic spectacle and invited the audience to join in the dancing.

The Billie Jean King Cup 2026 Finals Shenzhen is underway at Shenzhen Bay Sports Center in Nanshan District from Sept. 22 to 27. Eight national teams — Italy, the U.K., Spain, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belgium and host China — are competing for the top honor in women’s team tennis. In the opening match on Sept. 22, the Czech team, considered one of the title contenders, faced the seasoned British side and secured a 2-0 victory to advance to the next round.
