Shenzhen's education authorities announced today on their official WeChat account that all primary and secondary school students, whether from public or private schools, will have spring and autumn breaks starting this semester.

Senior high schools can decide their own schedules, and kindergartens are recommended to follow the official schedule for the compulsory education periods.

For the 2026-2027 academic year, the autumn break is scheduled from Nov. 17 (Tuesday) to Nov. 20 (Friday), and the spring break is scheduled from April 1, 2027 (Thursday) to April 2, 2027 (Friday), with no further plans to make up the missed classes.

The authorities said the spring and autumn breaks echo a national policy aimed at enriching students' social experience and promoting their all-round development.

Some other cities in Guangdong Province already have spring and autumn breaks.

For instance, schools in Foshan will have their 2026 autumn break from Nov. 11 to 13, connected with Saturday and Sunday for a continuous holiday.

Students in Qingyuan, north of Guangdong, will have their autumn break from Nov. 18 to Nov. 20, connecting with the following weekend.

The autumn break for compulsory education schools in Yunfu is scheduled from Nov. 9 to Nov. 10, connecting with the previous weekend to form a four-day mini holiday.

Coincidentally, Shenzhen will host this year's APEC Summit between Nov. 18-19. Shanghai and Beijing, which hosted the APEC Summit in 2001 and 2014 respectively, had also given breaks to students, but later required them to make up for the missed classes.
