The Shenzhen airport-Qianhai section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Intercity Railway is scheduled to open by the end of this year, according to the Guangdong's transportation authorities. Construction is nearing completion.
With part of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Intercity Railway in operation at the end of July, passengers can travel between Guangzhou and Shenzhen airports in about 90 minutes. The rail project will eventually provide direct access to Huanggang Checkpoint, a major land crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It will further strengthen rail links between Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

Located in the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Intercity Railway is regarded as a key project supporting the integrated development of the GBA and the further growth of western Shenzhen.
When fully operational, the railway is expected to make intercity travel more convenient and help integrate intercity passenger services with daily urban commuting.
