18-year-old HK golfer wins Golfathon title

An 18-year-old Hong Kong golfer has won the overall title at the 23rd Mission Hills Golfathon, which concluded 

at Mission Hills Dongguan on Wednesday after five months of competition.

Deng Aoxuan carded 71 strokes to claim the men’s overall championship. The young golfer has been a regular participant in the event since childhood. In 2015, at just six years old, he became the youngest player in the 12th edition of the Golfathon.

Li Fenfen won the women’s overall title with 79 strokes, while Lyu Zhiguo claimed the senior men’s title with 76.

Nearly 10,000 golfers took part in this year’s five-month event, according to Han Zhishan, general manager of Mission Hills Golf Club. The Golfathon has attracted nearly 140,000 amateur golfers from more than 30 countries and regions since its launch in 2004.

For Mission Hills Group Vice Chairman Tenniel Chu, the conclusion of the Golfathon is not the end of the golf season, but the beginning of a series of major events that will continue to bring golfers together.

He highlighted the upcoming Aramco China Championship, scheduled for Nov. 5-8 at Mission Hills Shenzhen. The tournament will bring together leading women golfers from around the world and further strengthen Shenzhen’s role as an international golf destination.

The event also featured celebrities from the Hong Kong Artists Golf Association, while HONOR showcased its “Lightning” humanoid robots, which have recently drawn attention for their racing achievements.
