Shenzhen forecast favors Mid-Autumn moon viewing

Shenzhen residents are likely to have favorable conditions for moon viewing during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, with no typhoon or widespread heavy rain expected to affect the city.

From Sept. 25 to 27, Shenzhen is forecast to see partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies, with only isolated brief showers or thunderstorms, according to local meteorological authorities.

Historical data also suggest relatively good odds for moon viewing. From 1996 to 2025, Shenzhen had suitable moon-viewing weather during about 64% of Mid-Autumn Festivals.

Over the 30-year period, the city recorded rain during about 36% of Mid-Autumn Festivals and heavy rain during just 3.3%. The average temperature was 28.1 degrees Centigrade.

Before the holiday, however, residents may still need umbrellas. Short-lived showers or thunderstorms are forecast for today to tomorrow, with temperatures of 26 to 31 degrees Centigrade today.

Thunderstorm activity is also expected to increase across Guangdong, with some areas potentially seeing short-duration heavy rain and strong gusts. Temperatures across the province are expected to ease slightly.

Meanwhile, a tropical disturbance southwest of Guam is being monitored for possible development into a tropical cyclone. It is not expected to affect the Chinese mainland during the Mid-Autumn holiday, although its longer-term track remains uncertain.

Shenzhen is forecast to turn hotter and sunnier from Sept. 28 to 30.
