Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport has introduced a free overnight rest area and reservable private sleeping pods for travelers who arrive late or have long overnight layovers.
Free overnight rest area
The free overnight rest area is located next to the ride-hailing Area B on the first floor of the Ground Transportation Center of Terminal 3 (T3). It operates daily from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day, and is equipped with 100 ergonomic leather reclining chairs.

Passengers can register to use the facility by presenting proof of travel and a valid identity document. Restrooms and a convenience store are located nearby.
Many passengers have praised the facility on social media, describing the chairs as “very comfortable” and calling the facility “a blessing for people taking early-morning flights.”
Private sleeping pods
Passengers seeking greater privacy can use the smart sleeping pods available around the clock in the reception hall on the eastern side of the second floor of T3.
The facility has 45 pods, each fitted with an adjustable sofa bed and a fresh-air ventilation system. Elderly passengers and families traveling with children may be assigned pods closer to the passageway.
The shared area includes a refreshment bar, showers and luggage storage. It also features art installations and greenery designed to create a more comfortable waiting environment.
The sleeping pods can be booked through online travel service providers such as Qunar, Trip.com or Fliggy by searching for “Yunxiaoxi Rest Area (“云小息休息区”).” Rates are around 300 yuan (US$45).

More services for arriving passengers
The facilities form part of a broader upgrade to passenger services at the airport, designed to better meet the needs of travelers arriving late at night or making overnight connections. Other services cover showers and changing facilities, assistance for passengers with special needs, and baggage services.
Around-the-clock shower and changing rooms have been installed beside baggage carousels six and nine on the second floor of T3. Passengers can call airport staff upon arrival to have the rooms opened.
The facilities have separate wet and dry areas and include dressing tables, makeup mirrors, hair dryers and lockers, allowing travelers to shower, change clothes and freshen up.
For domestic passengers with limited mobility, the airport offers advance reservations for wheelchair and electric cart services. Wheelchair assistance covers the route from the aircraft exit to the domestic arrivals exit, while electric carts operate between the second-floor arrival area and the various exits of the Ground Transportation Center.

Shorter check-in deadlines
In addition to these arrival services, the airport and several airlines have shortened check-in and baggage drop-off deadlines for selected domestic flights, allowing passengers to arrive later and spend less time waiting at check-in counters.
‘15-minute’ services expanded
China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines have introduced a “15-Minute Travel” service on their Shenzhen-Shanghai shuttle flights departing from T3.
Passengers with checked baggage may complete check-in and baggage drop-off up to 35 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Those without checked baggage may check in up to 30 minutes before departure, while the boarding gate closes 15 minutes before departure.
The service currently applies only to Shenzhen-Shanghai shuttle flights operated by China Eastern or Shanghai Airlines and departing from T3. Flights using the satellite terminal are not included.
It is also not available to passengers who require special assistance or have limited mobility. Wheelchair users, first-time flyers, unaccompanied minors, pregnant passengers and travelers with infants are advised to allow additional time.

Previously, China Southern Airlines introduced its “15-Minute Travel” service July 8, extending it to all domestic flights departing from Shenzhen.
Under the new arrangement, the check-in deadline and boarding-gate closing time for passengers without checked baggage are both 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Such passengers must complete check-in, security screening and boarding before the gate closes.
Passengers with checked baggage must still allow sufficient time to visit a counter, but the baggage drop-off deadline has been shortened to 30 minutes before departure.
Other airlines and express routes

The Shenzhen airport has also additionally worked with Air China, Shenzhen Airlines, Shandong Airlines and Kunming Airlines to further shorten cut-off times for their domestic flights departing from Shenzhen. For passengers with checked baggage, the deadline has been reduced to 35 minutes before departure. For those without checked baggage, the check-in deadline has been reduced to 30 minutes.
The changes are intended to better serve business travelers and frequent flyers.
The Shenzhen airport and Shenzhen Airlines have also shortened cut-off times on two express routes — Shenzhen to Beijing Capital International Airport and Shenzhen to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. Passengers with checked baggage can complete baggage drop-off up to 30 minutes before departure, while those without checked baggage can check in up to 20 minutes before departure.
The airport said the service may gradually be expanded to more routes, allowing more passengers to enjoy a faster and more convenient travel experience.
