Greater Bay Area Ski Open wraps up at Qianhai Snow World

The 2026 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Ski Open and the 2026 Guangdong Youth Ski Open concluded at Qianhai Snow World on Aug. 30, attracting approximately 400 ski enthusiasts from across the region.

The event featured three competition categories: parallel alpine skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboard slopestyle, and snowboard parallel giant slalom. Competitors were divided into multiple youth age groups and adult divisions, with events open to ski enthusiasts of all ages.

Athletes from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao competed head-to-head on the slopes, showcasing sharp turns, controlled descents and daring jumps. After several rounds of competition, 27 champions were crowned across all divisions.

The event was held  with support from the Chinese Ski Association and jointly organized by the Guangdong Winter Sports Association, the Ski Association of Hong Kong, the Ski Association of Macao and the Culture, Media, Tourism and Sports Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality. Shenzhen Huafa Ice and Snow Sports Co. and the Ski Association of Shenzhen served as co-organizers.

The organizers placed strong emphasis on safety and provided comprehensive event services, as well as educational activities for participants and visitors. The event aimed to use competition to encourage public participation, support the development of the winter sports industry and strengthen regional integration.

In recent years, Shenzhen has actively implemented the national strategy of expanding winter sports in southern China and promoting their development nationwide. The city has made ice and snow sports a key part of its efforts to become an internationally renowned sports city and to help build a dynamic sports ecosystem across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

These efforts have enabled Shenzhen to develop a year-round winter sports model with distinctive Lingnan characteristics. As a year-round snow sports complex, Qianhai Snow World provides residents with regular opportunities to experience winter sports while serving as a high-end venue for professional competitions and youth training.

Shenzhen plans to use the event as an opportunity to further expand sports cooperation across the GBA, strengthen youth talent development and provide the public with a wider range of winter sports programs. The city also plans to promote deeper integration between winter sports and the culture, tourism and technology industries, build a sustainable winter sports industry chain in southern China, and broaden grassroots participation in winter sports.
