Children's arts exhibition opens in Macao

An imaginative art exhibition has arrived in Macao, transforming two major venues into interactive playgrounds for the young and young at heart.

“Echo the Wind Wanderer,” a highlight of the ongoing 3rd Macao International Children’s Arts Festival, has opened at the Macao Museum of Art and MGM Cotai’s Lion Lobby. The exhibition invites visitors to step into a tactile, whimsical universe crafted by Australia-based artist Ekokaxi Wang.

Using everyday materials such as clay, paper, yarn and sponge, the artist has constructed a parallel world centered on the mysterious character “Echo.” Part self-projection and part fairytale guide, Echo leads audiences on a journey that explores perception, reality and self-discovery.

At the Macao Museum of Art, guests can explore themed sections including “Echo’s Cabinet of Curiosities,” “Re-coding Macao” and “Aquarium Adventures,” alongside the outdoor installation “Mojo” (also known as “The Scavenger’s Waters”).

At MGM Cotai’s Lion Lobby, the section titled “Wandering in a Parallel World” showcases the origins of the works, how the city is artistically recoded and the vast parallel universe composed of multiple Echos.

“Here in Macao, I have created three portals into ‘parallel worlds.’ In each, I have completed only half the journey; the rest awaits your discovery, your touch and your feelings,” Wang noted in her exhibition statement.

The exhibition encourages hands-on participation, allowing visitors to touch, interact and immerse themselves in a stress-free artistic journey.

To enhance the experience, a stamp-collecting activity called “Hand in Hand with Echo the Wind Wanderer” invites attendees to collect exclusive stamps at both venues. Those who complete the set can enter a lucky draw for a chance to win plush toys or special-edition stickers.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) of Macao has rolled out a “Summer Art for Families” series featuring new events such as a “Parent-Child Night Tour”and art exploration journeys that weave Echo’s stories into guided tours and role-play activities. Some programs require prior registration via “Macao One Account.”

Note: Some interactive zones require visitors to bring their own socks.
