Pixar's Oscar winner 'WALL·E' makes Chinese mainland debut today

Pixar Animation Studios' "WALL·E" is making its theatrical debut on the Chinese mainland today, coinciding with Qixi Festival, a celebration known as Chinese Valentine's Day. 

Set in the year 2805, the film imagines a future in which Earth has been abandoned by humanity due to an ecocide. Left behind is a WALL·E trash-compacting robot who has developed a personality and maintains functioning by taking usable parts from other inactive robots. 

WALL·E's daily routine is unexpectedly broken by the arrival of EVE, an advanced probe robot. For the first time, he finds himself drawn to something beyond his programmed routine, setting off a romantic adventure that takes the two robots across the galaxy.

Released in 2008, the production received widespread acclaim, winning major industry awards including Best Animated Feature at the 81st Academy Awards and Best Animated Feature Film at the 66th Golden Globe Awards. 

The film was directed by Andrew Stanton, a key creative figure at Pixar who won his first Academy Award with "Finding Nemo."

Its music by Thomas Newman earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score, while the song "Down to Earth" by Newman and Peter Gabriel was also nominated for Best Original Song.
