Maluan Mountain Country Park and greenway

Spanning 21.73 square kilometers, the Maluan Mountain Country Park (马峦山郊野公园) is home to Shenzhen’s densest and tallest clusters of waterfalls, as well as a network of trails that attract hikers, nature lovers, and families year-round.

Most of the peaks in the park are below 500 meters above sea level. With clear streams and lush woods, the park is acclaimed as a “natural oxygen bar.” The Biling Waterfalls (碧岭瀑布群) in the northwestern part of the mountain features five sections of waterfalls in various forms due to the erosion of water on the rocks. 

In addition to natural resources, the mountain is also home to six ancient Hakka villages. Their centuries-old Hakka houses hidden amid the lush forests of the mountain are also worth visiting.

Now, the park is evolving beyond a weekend hiking spot into a dedicated outdoor lifestyle destination, with a series of amenities.

Rest stops

Rest stations across the park offer soft drinks, route guidance, viewing and resting areas, and emergency supplies — making every break along the trail more comfortable.

Shuttles

To reduce long walking distances, three shuttle routes connect key attractions, including the waterfalls, the Former Site of the 1911 Revolution, Honghualing Reservoir, and In Green Lodges & Resorts. The service helps visitors save time while enjoying the scenery.

Bike rentals

At the park’s north entrance, visitors can rent electric power-assisted bikes, high-performance mountain bikes, and safety gear. These options are well suited to the 9.4-kilometer greenway, which winds through shaded groves, scenic viewpoints, and gentle bends — ideal for both casual riders and light off-road enthusiasts.

Vending machines

Self-service vending machines stocked with water, sports drinks, and coffee are now available at major points throughout the park, so visitors can travel light and replenish supplies conveniently.

The 9.4-kilometer Maluan Mountain Greenway offers both a leisurely escape and a challenging training ground. Its smooth, high-grip asphalt surface has replaced the former dirt and gravel paths, while dedicated bike lanes keep cyclists separate from hikers.

For experienced riders and fitness enthusiasts, the greenway provides a natural setting for high-intensity training. Steep climbs push leg muscles to the limit, while rolling ridges connect to form demanding endurance routes. With uninterrupted stretches for riding, it is an ideal place to test your limits.

For families and solo wanderers, gentler sections wind through lush greenery to the sound of birdsong. There is no need to hurry — simply follow nature’s rhythm and take in the scenery.

Reaching Honghualing Reservoir requires a steady climb. Then, through the trees, a sheet of brilliant blue suddenly comes into view, with sunlight scattering across the water like shifting silver. A short detour leads to waterfalls, where mist rises from the plunge pool and the valley echoes with the roar of falling water.

Farther along the trail, the Gengzi Uprising Site stands quietly beside the path. Moss creeps over the brickwork, while its carved doorways, weathered by time, retain their century-old form. Continuing uphill, visitors reach the Plum Pavilion, the highest point on the route, where the valley opens out below and the breeze carries the fragrance of plum blossoms.

Bike rentals are available at the north gate, with no reservation required. E-bikes for beginners and mountain bikes for experienced riders are available, along with helmets, repair tools and pumps. The greenway also features clear bilingual signage, emergency call points and comprehensive route maps.

The north gate is also home to a café serving hot and cold drinks. Vending machines and rest stops along the trail ensure that refreshments are never far away, whether you are on a long ride or a leisurely hike.
