Guangming Lake Greenway

The Guangming Lake Greenway offers residents a waterfront corridor that integrates ecological conservation, recreation, sports and science education.

The greenway connects Guangming Lake’s 6-square-kilometer water area with surrounding trails, including Dadingling Greenway and Guangming Forest Park. It also features a 42-kilometer marathon route, a 25-kilometer hiking trail system, and a 20-kilometer cycling network.

Key landmarks include an 932-meter lake-viewing bridge, inspired by traditional Chinese aesthetics, offering panoramic views of the lake and sunset. A water culture exhibition hall shaped like a water droplet combines public education with cycling services. Additional sites include a sunset theater, eco-farm zones, a children’s water cycle science park, and ecological purification displays.

The corridor is lined with seasonal pink flowering trees and connects directly to Guangming Fun Farm, where farmland, flower fields and modern research facilities create a blend of urban innovation and rural scenery.

The greenway also connects to Jingkou Ancient Village, where visitors can explore historical kilns and Lingnan architecture. The cycling route links the Guangming Science City exhibition center and the Shenzhen campus of Sun Yat-sen University, promoting “cycling+” tourism.

The new attraction is open year-round without reservations and equipped with public rest areas, drinking water stations and barrier-free pathways.

A bridge above the water

The centerpiece of this new ecological corridor is the Guanhu Cloud Bridge — a 932-meter-long, sky-blue pedestrian bridge that winds gracefully along the lake shore. Designed with a flowing “cloud and water” aesthetic, the structure features multiple viewing platforms that allow visitors to pause and take in the scenery from different angles. At its highest point, an observation deck rewards climbers with a 360-degree panoramic view of the expansive lake and the emerging skyline of Guangming Science City in the distance.

A paradise for cyclists and hikers

The promenade connects several key areas, including Tian’an Cloud Valley, OCT Fun Farm, Jingkou Ancient Village, and Dadingling Greenway, making it easy for visitors to extend their exploration beyond the lake itself.

For cycling enthusiasts, an 18.8-kilometer leisure route has been established. Starting from the Guangming Science City Exhibition Center, the flat, gentle path winds through countryside and lakefront scenery before ending at the Shenzhen campus of Sun Yat-sen University. The route is designed for riders of all skill levels, making it an accessible option for casual weekend outings.

Those seeking a more challenging hike can take advantage of the trail’s connection to the Dadingling Greenway and Guangming Forest Park, forming a 20-kilometer loop that is part of the third and fourth sections of the Fenghuang Trail. This route includes more rugged terrain with dirt paths and gravel roads, offering a different kind of adventure for those who prefer to break a sweat.

Family fun and cultural hubs

The greenway has been designed with families firmly in mind. Near the bridge, a water culture exhibition hall built with a droplet-inspired design and traditional Lingnan-style architecture serves as both a rest stop and an educational center, offering exhibits on the lake’s transformation from a reservoir to a vibrant public space. Nearby, the newly opened southern wing of the Guangming Science Park provides extensive children’s play areas, making it an ideal destination for a family day out.

The area is also home to two significant cultural landmarks that have opened in recent months: the Shenzhen International Museum of Art and the Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum. Other attractions along the corridor include a sunset theater, eco-farm zones, a children’s water cycle science park, and ecological purification displays.

The greenway also links to Jingkou Ancient Village, where visitors can explore historical kilns and traditional Lingnan architecture, adding a layer of historical depth to the outdoor experience.
