'City of Design' Industrial Design Community unveiled

Futian District has unveiled the “City of Design” Industrial Design Community, marking another step forward in Shenzhen’s push to build a seamless vertical industrial ecosystem.

The “vertical design community” is an innovative concept that combines creative R&D upstairs with exhibition and sales downstairs.

As one of the first projects launched under Futian’s 2026 action plan for new-quality productive forces, the design community integrates three major creative hubs, namely A.R.T Tianmian International Cultural & Creative Town, Sino-Finnish Design Park, and the UpperHills commercial center, which form an all-encompassing creative industry network.

UpperHills leverages its strong headquarters economy to gather industry resources; the Sino-Finnish Design Park provides platforms for flexible trial production and testing to bridge the gap between design and production; and A.R.T Tianmian International Cultural & Creative Town completes the vertical model in which creativity leads to market success.

The “City of Design” Industrial Design Community integrates three major creative hubs, namely A.R.T Tianmian International Cultural & Creative Town, Sino-Finnish Design Park, and the UpperHills commercial center.

During the launch event at the Tianmian International Cultural & Creative Town, an exhibition featuring humanoid robots, traditional ceramics, trendy cultural products, and commercial space designs drew wide attention from industry professionals. The design community’s unique ecosystem ensures that a designer's vision can transition rapidly from a blueprint to mass production by using local pilot-scale testing platforms and corporate resources.

To further support its growth, three major strategic cooperation agreements were signed involving the Sino-Finnish Design Park and leading consultancies such as CBON International Consulting and Kylee Design, with a focus on brand globalization and industrial empowerment. Additionally, a “Six-in-One” service station was inaugurated to provide enterprises with direct access to policy support, resource matching, and AI-driven digital consulting.

Leveraging Futian’s robust electronic information industry, the industrial design sector has worked with manufacturers to incubate numerous widely popular products. Notable examples include LKK Design’s HALOS gene data integrated machine for BGI, which simplified complex laboratory equipment through systematic design. Similarly, the usmile electric toothbrush, incubated by inDare, and the award-winning bladeless stroller fan by Z Wave Design prove that modern industrial design is no longer just about aesthetics; it is a deep integration of structure, materials, and electronic solutions.

The establishment of the “City of Design” Industrial Design Industrial Community serves as a microcosm of Futian’s broader strategy to foster high-quality development. By closing the loop between design, R&D, and manufacturing, Futian is ensuring that innovative ideas are not only functional but also commercially viable.
