Movie enthusiasts in Shenzhen have a new reason to head to the theater. The country’s first SCREENX PLF (Premium Large Format) auditorium made its grand opening at the CGV Cinema at the Uniwalk mall in Bao’an District on June 27.
As the flagship upgrade of the cinema’s signature ScreenX technology, the SCREENX PLF auditorium has a movie screen that extends onto the left and right walls, creating a 270-degree panoramic view that effectively eliminates traditional viewing boundaries.

Zhou Ling, manager of CGV Cinema Uniwalk Shenzhen, said the new format uses ultra-high-definition laser projection to ensure peak brightness and clear, finely detailed color reproduction. “The auditorium redefines the visual scale of cinema. Every frame is rich and vivid,” Zhou said. “When combined with our surround panoramic sound system, it creates a deeply immersive space for the audience.”
The opening day saw a massive turnout of film fans eager to experience the new technology. One moviegoer shared his excitement: “This is incredibly cool! The 270-degree triple-screen setup offers a fantastic sense of immersion.”
The technical execution has also impressed critics. Observers at the scene noted that the side screens achieve perfect synchronization with the main screen, maintaining consistent brightness and zero color difference, a common technical challenge in multi-projection setups that CGV has successfully overcome.
As the first of its kind in China, the SCREENX PLF at Uniwalk is expected to become a must-visit landmark for tech-savvy entertainment seekers in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
