Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com opened its first JD MALL superstore in Hong Kong on June 18, drawing hundreds of shoppers on its first day and marking a major step in the company’s investments of more than HK$35 billion (US$4.5 billion) in the city.
The 30,000-square-foot outlet in Wan Chai features full-home product categories, from large appliances and smartphones to smart bathroom fixtures, massage devices and robotic vacuum cleaners. Brands on display include Bosch, Siemens, Samsung, Sony, DJI, Xiaomi, TCL, Haier and Casarte, with several international and mainland Chinese labels making their first offline appearance in Hong Kong through the store.

JD MALL Wan Chai is the company’s first brick-and-mortar retail location in the city and a cornerstone of its expansion in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
According to JD.com, it aims to bring a completely new experience to Hong Kong consumers — one that blends hands-on interaction with the convenience of trusted online service.
The store departs from the traditional electronics retail model in Hong Kong, where customers typically compare price tags and technical specifications. Shoppers at JD MALL can test products before buying, with dedicated zones for robotics, coffee brewing, e-sports and lounge-style massage experiences.

All merchandise is sourced locally and complies with Hong Kong safety and electrical standards, the company said. JD promises to match any lower price found in the city and refund double the difference. The store also offers seven-day no-reason returns and a 180-day replacement guarantee for faulty self-operated home appliances.

The Wan Chai opening is part of a three-year plan to add six to eight more JD MALL outlets across Hong Kong, the company said. JD.com has so far committed more than HK$35 billion to its Hong Kong operations, covering logistics, retail, and technology infrastructure.
JD.com, headquartered in Beijing, is one of China’s largest retailers by revenue and competes directly with Alibaba’s Tmall and Pinduoduo in mainland’s cutthroat e-commerce market.
