The lecture featured Jia Kai, professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of International and Public Affairs, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, who delivered a lecture centered on the theme. Officials from relevant Longhua government departments and representatives from local enterprises attended the event.

In an interview, Jia Kai said the shortage of interdisciplinary talent is a key bottleneck for intelligent manufacturing. He defined such talent as professionals skilled in both traditional manufacturing and AI. The gap cannot be solved by short-term hiring, he said, but requires sustained, production-oriented training instead.

He also said balancing development and security is fundamental to the AI industry, as only secure technologies will gain public trust and unlock value. He urged governments to provide AI safety infrastructure as a public good to ease compliance burdens and let businesses focus on innovation.

On Shenzhen's role, Jia said hosting the APEC summit offers a critical window to showcase the city’s technological, industrial and institutional progress to Asia-Pacific economies.
