Shiyan Wetland Park

Spanning approximately 1.55 million square meters, the Shiyan Wetland Park is one of the four themed parks along the Shiyan Lake Greenbelt. The park’s layout seamlessly integrates plazas, playgrounds, landscape bridges, and leisure trails with wetland meadows and wooden boardwalks, successfully combining ecological conservation with public recreation.
The park is characterized by its rich biological resources, providing a vital habitat for migratory birds. According to ecological surveys conducted between 2023 and 2024, the area is home to 162 species of vascular plants, including national second-class protected species such as Dalbergia odorifera and Aquilaria sinensis. The surveys also recorded 116 species of vertebrates, featuring 95 bird species, nearly half of which are migratory.

Notably, the park marked the first time the black-faced spoonbill — a national first-class protected animal — was observed wintering in a Shenzhen freshwater wetland. Other rare species, including the Oriental stork, Eurasian spoonbill, and black kite, are frequently spotted, while infrared cameras have captured images of the leopard cat, signaling a healthy and complete local ecosystem. The park also features the internationally certified “Wild Garden” butterfly sanctuary, a popular spot for insect observation.
To support its mission of public education, Shiyan Wetland Park is equipped with comprehensive facilities, including an ecological exhibition hall, specialized bird and specimen exhibits, a multi-functional classroom, and the Luyu Book Bar. Professional observation equipment is available for visitors, and the outdoor “Little Egret” path connects various habitats with informative signage and ecological monitoring devices to facilitate self-guided exploration.
The park offers regular bird-watching sessions, handicraft workshops, and outdoor research programs, holding an average of 30 nature education activities annually. Its Nature Education Center has previously been recognized as a Shenzhen Nature Education Center and a pilot unit for climate change education.
In June 2026, the park has been named among the first group of Shenzhen Biodiversity Experience Sites by the Shenzhen Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau. The designation positions the park as a premier destination for residents to explore nature, gain ecological knowledge, and participate in biodiversity conservation efforts.
