Individuals who fail to properly sort domestic waste in Shenzhen could face fines of up to 1,000 yuan (US$147) under a new draft amendment to the city’s waste classification regulations made public on the local justice bureau’s official website. The proposed change marks a fivefold increase from the current maximum penalty of 200 yuan for individual violators. While individual fines are set to rise, maximum penalties for businesses and organizations remain unchanged at 500,000 yuan. Residents and stakeholders have until June 23 to submit feedback on the website https://sf.sz.gov.cn/hdjlpt/yjzj/answer/50536.
