The museum joins a high-profile cluster of scientific and cultural landmarks, including the Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum, the Science Park and the Science City Sports Center, in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Designed as a major hub for artistic dialogue, the SIMoA combines academic research, exhibition curation, public education, art collection, and international exchange.

The museum will focus on three primary directions: dialogue between tradition and modernity, exchange between Eastern and Western art, and the integration of art and technology.

Guided by openness, inclusiveness, diversity, and sustainability, the museum aims to serve as a cultural hub connecting the city, industries, and the public, while exploring the innovative value of art in future society.

The SIMoA is rooted in the patriotic contribution of Peng Wanchi, a renowned Frence-based artist. Peng and his family donated their private collection to the city to support Shenzhen’s evolution into a modern international metropolis.

The architectural vision was brought to life by a team led by Cui Kai, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief architect of the China Architecture Design & Research Group. The design integrates architecture, function, and landscape, blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment to create a cluster of buildings where visitors can wander, admire, and linger.

The main structure of the museum is elevated above the ground floor, leaving the ground level completely open to the public. The space incorporates commercial streets and galleries, allowing residents to interact with art during their regular routines.

At the heart of the structure lies the "Window of Art," featuring a unique Moon Gate silhouette. Utilizing hundreds of metal cables and acrylic panels, the installation uses integrated lighting to depict the lunar cycle. Architects state that this feature allows the building to transcend its role as a mere container for art, becoming a piece of public art in itself.

Equipped with international-standard exhibition halls, public art zones, and professional storage facilities, the museum also boasts a rich array of functional spaces, including a theater, an outdoor amphitheater, a children's art museum, an academic lecture hall, a library and documentation center, and artist studios.

The museum is suited for hosting major international exhibitions, researching cutting-edge art theories, and building a comprehensive system for public aesthetic education.

The SIMoA will host a year-round schedule of international exhibitions, academic forums, performing arts, and public education programs.
