Guangming enhances social security services for expats

Writer: Lin Songtao  |  Editor: Cao Zhen  |  From: Shenzhen Daily  |  Updated: 2026-05-19

Guangming District, a hub for foreign investment with over 1,700 overseas companies, has stepped up social security services for foreign professionals.

The district’s social security bureau has set up dedicated service windows and a bilingual team to streamline procedures, providing faster and more efficient support. A special handbook detailing policies for foreign employees and their families — including childcare and retirement coverage — has also been distributed. Expats can obtain copies at the service hall.

China has signed bilateral social security agreements with 13 countries, 12 of which (Germany, South Korea, Denmark, Finland, Canada, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, Luxembourg, Japan, Serbia, and Kyrgyzstan) are currently in effect. Foreigners from these nations can submit proof of coverage to be exempt from certain contributions, mainly pension and unemployment insurance, while enjoying fast-track services at the service hall.

For more information, foreigners can visit the Shenzhen Human Resources and Social Security Bureau website or call 12333.
