Opening the event will be an old-school animated film titled “Slocum and Me,” which blends childhood and adulthood to offer a journey where building a boat becomes a stage for family dynamics and evolving dreams.

In the early 1950s, along the banks of the Marne River, 11-year-old François becomes intrigued as his parents start building a sailboat in their small backyard — a replica of the famous sailor Joshua Slocum’s vessel.
Over the years, in post-war France, young François transitions from adolescence to adulthood. As the boat takes shape, he tenderly and poetically observes his mother and father, embarking on his own adventure, pursuing his passions for the sea and drawing.
Nominated at the Cannes Film Festival and the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, “Slocum and Me” layers the life of Joshua Slocum, the first person to sail solo around the world, over the quiet, gentle existence of this family trio.
The film embraces the traditional animation approach, highlighting hand-drawn lines and expressive artwork. Every detail, from characters inspired by vintage photographs to settings infused with nostalgia, reflects the meticulous care given to this art form.

The event will also bring films including “Cartagena,” “Case 137,” “Nino,” “In-I in Motion,” “The Piano Accident,” “Wild Foxes,” “That Summer in Paris,” “Ma frère” (“My Buddy”), “Ma vie, ma gueule” (“My Life, My Word”), and “L’aventura.”

All are films first released in 2025 except “Cartagena,” a 2009 romantic drama directed by Alain Monne and starring Sophie Marceau and Christopher Lambert.

Organized by Unifrance with support from the French Embassy in China, the Panorama has been a pillar of Franco-Chinese cultural exchange since its 2004 debut under the Festival Croisements.
Over 22 years, it has hosted icons like Sophie Marceau, Jean Reno, Juliette Binoche, Léa Seydoux, and director Claude Lelouch, as well as industry leaders such as Pathé CEO Jérôme Seydoux.
Audiences can look forward to a carefully curated lineup, immersing themselves in French storytelling on the big screen.
All films are presented in French with Chinese subtitles (some also include English subtitles).
