Bridges over urbanity: How Shenzhen is making room for nature

Writer:   |  Editor: Lin Qiuying  |  From: Shenzhen Daily  |  Updated: 2026-04-24

Shenzhen has found a practical way to protect biodiversity without pushing nature out of the city. By building ecological trails and wildlife passages, and managing green spaces with care, the city has created “dual trails” — shared routes where people can enjoy nature and wild animals can move safely. These efforts leave enough room for wildlife to live, migrate and thrive alongside humans.
